Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 3, 2026

Introduction

SomeTimes ("SomeTimes," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile app for saving and sharing memories with exactly the people you choose. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have — including your privacy setting on every single post.

By creating an account or using SomeTimes, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect the email address and password you register with, the username and full name you choose, and your date of birth (used only to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement — it isn't shown to other users). Authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase.

Profile information

Your profile photo (avatar), bio, and any profile answers you choose to fill in are stored and shown to other users according to your privacy settings.

Content you create ("memories")

Every memory you post can include a photo or video, a caption, a date, and a location. If you allow SomeTimes to read a photo's metadata, we use its original date and GPS coordinates to auto-fill the memory's date and location — this only happens for photos you actively choose to post, and you can always edit or remove that information before sharing. Photos and videos are compressed on your device before upload to keep them light to store and quick to load.

Each memory carries a privacy level that you set and can change at any time:

  • Public — visible to anyone on SomeTimes
  • Friends — visible only to people you're connected with
  • Private — visible only to you

Social and interaction data

We store the connections you make (follows), the groups you create or join (including private groups and their membership), and the comments, likes, replies, and emoji reactions you leave on memories.

Messages

Direct messages, group conversations, and messages attached to a shared memory are stored so they can be delivered and displayed to their intended recipients. We do not read your messages except as needed to operate the app, enforce our terms, or respond to a safety report.

Safety reports and blocks

If you block another user, we store that block to keep their content out of your feeds and yours out of theirs — only you can see who you've blocked. If you report a post or profile, we store the report (reason, optional details, and what was reported) so our team can review it; reports are not visible to other users, including the person you reported.

Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store a device push token (issued by Apple/Google via Expo's push service) so we can deliver alerts for things like new followers, comments, likes, and messages. You can turn push notifications off at any time in Settings.

Camera, photo library, and media access

SomeTimes asks for permission to access your camera and photo library only when you choose to take or attach a photo or video to a memory. We do not scan or access your photo library in the background.

Technical and log information

Like most apps, we automatically receive some technical information whenever you use SomeTimes — things like your IP address, device model, operating system version, app version, and basic crash or error logs. We use this only to keep the app secure, diagnose problems, and understand things like which app versions are still in use. We do not use it to build an advertising profile of you, and SomeTimes does not show ads.

How We Use Your Information

  • To create and maintain your account, and authenticate you when you log in
  • To let you post, view, and organize memories according to the privacy level you choose
  • To power features like the globe view, feed, groups, comments, reactions, and messaging
  • To send notifications you've opted into
  • To detect, investigate, and act on reports of spam, abuse, or content that violates our terms
  • To maintain the security, integrity, and reliability of the app

We do not use your content or activity to serve ads, and we do not sell your personal information.

Who We Share Information With

We don't sell your data. We share information only in these cases:

  • Other users — content and profile details are shown to other users strictly according to the privacy level and audience you choose for each memory, and your normal profile visibility.
  • Service providers — we rely on Supabase for our database, authentication, and file storage, and on Expo's push notification service to deliver alerts to your device. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
  • Legal reasons — we may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of SomeTimes, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers — if SomeTimes is ever involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Your Choices and Controls

  • Privacy level — set every memory to public, friends, or private, and change it later
  • Block — block anyone to remove their content from your feeds and yours from theirs
  • Report — flag a post or profile for our team to review
  • Edit or delete content — remove any memory, comment, or message you've posted, at any time
  • Notifications — turn push notifications on or off in Settings
  • Delete your account — permanently delete your account from Settings. This removes your profile and cascades to your memories, media, comments, likes, group memberships, and follows. This action can't be undone. Can't access the app? See how to request deletion instead.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional legal rights over your personal information beyond the controls described above. To exercise any of the rights below, contact us at help@sometimessocial.com — we'll respond within a month. We won't charge you a fee or treat you differently for asking.

If you're in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland

We process your information to perform our contract with you (running the app), for our legitimate interests (like keeping SomeTimes secure and reliable), and, where applicable, with your consent. You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to receive a copy of your data in a portable format. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority at any time.

If you're a California (or other U.S. state) resident

You may have the right to know what personal information we collect, request a copy of it, ask us to correct or delete it, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We don't sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of — but you're welcome to submit any of these requests to us anyway. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, so the app can function as intended. If you delete a piece of content, we remove it from active use; if you delete your account, we delete your account data as described above. Technical and log data (see Technical and Log Information above) is kept only for a limited period for security and debugging purposes. We may retain limited information where required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

Data Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit and row-level access controls on our database — to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. If a breach affecting your personal information ever occurs, we'll notify you and any relevant regulator as required by law.

Children's Privacy

SomeTimes is not directed to children, and you must be at least 16 to create an account — we ask for your date of birth at signup to confirm this. If you believe someone under 16 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

International Users

Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than the one you live in. Wherever it's processed, we apply the protections described in this policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll notify you in the app or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Continued use of SomeTimes after a change means you accept the updated policy.
